The stove is in charge
boss of me

In this house, as any new house you move into, there are quirks and differences from what you had previously. Some can be solved or worked around in some way, like maybe moving furniture around or just getting new pillows or something. Sometimes it is more difficult, but you can overcome it with a good attitude and an eventual dog, like in the case of the mysterious cat who keeps peeing on the backyard doorstep. Sometimes though, you admit defeat. The stove is what it is and I can't do anything about it. When we first came by to meet our landlords and check out the house, we talked about the stove. Heleen also resents and fears the stove, I think. She said it shuts off when water gets on it, which is always. It does do this and it is maddening. It's an induction surface which some people love but I do not share that love. It gets too hot too fast and burns the pots and pans. It heats up well for baking but things are soggy not crispy unless I really manage the situation. My old stove and I were like a perfect duet. This is not that. This is the stove running the show and I have to do what it wants and deal with it. I pay a lot of attention, turn it back on when it shuts itself off because it got wet or got a pot moved when it wasn't expecting that or otherwise got its feelings hurt. I hover and I maintain. I approach with caution. I plan around its schedule.

The dishwasher I think I still have control over. The washing machine less so, but it is far more simple with fewer demands and I don't have to use it as often. I have given up on the stove, my every day enemy, and will adjust my life according to its whims.
